Counting In Play

As children begin to play, try incorporating counting into the games.

I am a great believer in free play being one of the best ways to learn but every now and again, count the blocks, or rings, or whatever and then listen out for when the children incorporate this into their own free play – just wonderful.

Once counting becomes an activity children do independently, try some matching activities, such as, a spoon for each dish, a straw for each cup, a chair for each teddy.

This is a great way to start gaining the concept of one to one correspondence
