To be able to count to five(and above) in the correct sequence.
By now this shouldn’t be too taxing especially if you’ve been counting things for a long time!
This is a rote learning process but until the children can remember the sequence of the numbers they will not be able to count beyond 5 with any success.

It isn’t worth rushing through the steps for counting. It is such a crucial concept for children to understand. It is so beneficial for them to have a good grounding in counting so they won’t struggle with other number activities.
